Children's Day

We rode the subway downtown to attend Children's Day at South Street Seaport.  The first Children's Day took place in 1993.  It's intent was to bring families back downtown after the tragedies of September 11th.

When we exited the subway we found ourselves in the middle of a huge rainstorm.  It was pouring, the kind of rain that if you stand in it for a second, you're completely soaked.  The kids and I LOVED it!!!  Shannon said, "What should we do?"  I said, "let's walk!"

This Desert Mama loved the rain.

While seeking shelter under a bridge we purchased a bootleg copy of Kung Fu Panda.  We were very excited since we had planned to take the kids to see it and the $5.00 bootleg was much cheaper then going to the movies.  Only in New York!!!

Since it was pouring we decided to seek shelter indoors and took the kids to BODIES the Exhibit.  It was amazing to see how intricately God put our bodies together.

Gracie has been talking about her bones, veins, muscles, etc. ever since.

Each of us was able to hold an actual human brain and femur bone.

After the exhibit we walked down the cobblestone streets of Seaport to find a place to sit during the fireworks show.  We ate at the Pacific Grill, our table was on the water and we had an amazing night watching people, boats, and fireworks while drinking wine and eating clam chowder.
We were given these very cool glasses to watch the fireworks with.  The kids loved them...

and so did we!

Gracie and I love Shirley Temples.  She ordered them with extra cherries every time we went out to eat during our trip.

It was the most amazing fireworks show any of us had ever seen.  Set to music by the Brooklyn Philarmonic, the show lasted over 45 minutes and the fireworks were set off of barges in the water.  When the finale started it began to pour down rain.  Fireworks in the rain, we were in Heaven.  Awesome... once again, only in New York!!!

We concluded the evening with some major puddle jumping action, very wet kids and a taxi cab ride home with a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge.

It was a glorious day!
